6 Month Check-up...

We had Jacob's 6 month appointment earlier this week, he weighed 17.42 lbs. and was 28.1 inches long and healthy! He weighed a little bit less than he should be for his height, but he started crawling last week and I guess that's what happens is that they loose some weight once they start to crawl. Yep thats right Jake is crawling, no more scooting, and he is twice as fast as he was when he was scooting. He is also able to pull himself upto standing and he is getting really good at it. So we have our hands full!

Pinching the penny.

In an effort to save money, and the environment ;), we have been trying a couple of things out in the baby department.

The first:

Since Jacob has started eating solids I decided to make his baby food instead of buying the baby food from the store. It's actually kind of fun and easy. All I do is cook the fruit/veggie, then I puree it in the blender, and pour it into 1 0z. ice cube trays (that way I can judge how much he is eating) cover with saran wrap, freeze over night, then put the frozen cubes in a ziploc freezer bag and then when I am ready to feed him I will take one/two of the cubes and put them in the microwave for about 20 seconds and wallah!

There are a few things I will still buy from the store like cereal and prunes. Prunes are way to sticky and I can only imagine the mess I would make with those. So far it has been easy but I am sure once we start to introduce more foods instead of just fruits and veggies, it may get a little more complicated. But hopefully by then we can mash or grind up whatever we are having for dinner.

The second:

Cloth diapers. We have been using them part-time for almost a week now and so far so good. We only have enough cloth diapers right now for one day so I will put Jake in a disposable for night time and that gives me a chance to wash and dry them before I go to bed. It is kind of a hassle doing laundry every night so just today I ordered more diapers so I will only have to do laundry every 3-4 days. The only problem with them so far is that they give Jacob a really fluffy bum, so hardly any of his pants fit him. So if he is in a cloth diaper that is all he will be wearing and if we go somewhere we put him in a disposable so we can put pants on him, not a big deal considering we hardly ever go anywhere. :)

They make the diaper covers so cute now and they go on just like a disposable would so it makes it a lot easier than how they used to be. Brad has even been able to do it, except for the poopy diapers, those get put in a bucket for me deal with when I get home from work. But I rather do that than have to clean up Brad's throw up from him having to clean the dirty diaper. Blah!
